Today at Yard of Bleu were having a 'summers evening' with our new stock that will be available to shop at Etsy by the end of the week.... Imagine a summers evening spent wearing a sheer lace slip, relaxing in our Ercol collection sipping a cup of chamomile tea.

Yard of Bleu launches at Etsy

Thursday was an exciting day we finally launched our online vintage home ware shop at Etsy. As you can see down the right hand side, a quick glimpse into my shop.

 

My love for vintage interiors has lead me to upholstery and hand painted vintage furniture, but a home isn’t anything without the finishing touches .When I’m on my adventures hunting for the big things, its always the little things that catch my eye, when I see something that I admire I just have to get it , a bit naughty but It’s a old habit that I learnt from my Nan as she was the one that introduced me to the world of vintage treasures and taught me that if you don’t buy with your heart your live with regret, as the beauty of buying vintage is  you might not see them again so it’s best to always buy, she would say . so as I started to build a beautiful collection ranging from 1950's floral linens, pastel French tea sets to painted garden coffee pots I knew it was time to open a online shop and there isn't a better place to start with then Etsy . I really really love this site, being able to shop anything vintage from across the world is a dream come true, and not to forget all the handmade products you can buy from talented artist and designers it’s just a magical place to start a business.

Upholstery update :: sky blues the limit

when you start with a chair that looks like it’s been kept in a skip for the last 20 odd years its exciting knowing that you are going to bring this poor little chair back to life and by the time your done with it, it’s going to be a complete head turner.

I took this pic after I stripped it down, originally it was upholstered in red velvet with brass studs, making this chair look OTT and tacky as the wooden frame is already elaborate enough, I wanted to make this chair look elegant and more simple.

 

I got to learn how to button this term which was really interesting, working out the dimensions for the diamonds and covering buttons by hand is a lot harder then I imagined and the little arms can be fiddly to, but the end result is worth every minute as I’ve fallen completely in love and this will be a hard one to let go.

 

 

I painted this chair in Paris Grey - Annie Sloan {new addiction} I sanded the edges, I think this also helps bring out the beautiful detail that’s in the wooden frame and I decided to go for natural linen in sky blue.

I think this chair would look amazing in a bedroom or if you had a walk-in wardrobe you could have this chair to sit and try on all your beloved shoe collection. {I think Carrie would approve} yep I think I've found the perfect excuse ladies for us to own a chair like this.

Milano Shop Envy

 Flicking though This Months ELLE Decoration ( June issue ) and boy did I fall in love with this antique atelier L'Utile e il Dilettevole which is hidden in the backstreets of Milan, The shop stocks 19th- Century furniture, vintage objects and textiles. As you know I dream of one day owning something so pretty filled with vintage treasures, and this had me daydreaming of that day...  I think next time I'm in Milan I might just have to check it out.

It's just the beginning ...

Beginnings are beautiful to think and wonder what is yet to become....... well that's what I imagine when I dream of the beginning. The beginning of something exciting, fresh and yet unknown.


Hi I'm Georgia the blogger of Yard of Bleu, it’s my first post (a bit nervous) and I want to share with you some things about myself and my dreams. I'm 23 originally from London, I have a one sister who is my best friend, I absolutely love this girl she is the person I turn too when I need a cuddle, high five or a good cry and I’ve been with my boyfriend Jamie for 5 and half years coming up to 6 in September. We meet at school and become good friends.....and the rest is history, he is my soul mate and he definitely brings the best out in me, I couldn’t imagine life without him, he has me in fits of giggles and we try and discover somewhere new every opportunity we have together, we love travelling and my favourite place yet, is Italy I have so much love for this place and every time I visit I just want to stay and never return its one of my ultimate dreams to live out there one day .

The dreams I dare to dream.......


I have a goal in life like the rest of us, mine is to one day own my very own interior shop selling antiques, vintage finds, linen, textiles and one-off pieces of art from across Europe, I would like to also have a coffee bar inside playing the coolest, relaxing jazz music..... Everyone has a dream some bigger than others but this is what I imagine my life to be and I thought I would blog about it and capture my journey online so that I can see how I’m progressing and get some feedback from people that share the same interests as me.


This all started when I went to college to study 3D design I feel in love with architecture and interiors, I went on to study surface design at uni which covered fabric and wallpaper design. I left not sure if that is what I wanted to do, two years after I started taking upholstery classes I’m currently on my third term. The feeling of turning something that looks so lifeless into a exciting piece of furniture is so much fun and I love looking back at all the hard work and having that sense of achievement. So this is what made me think and take a professional furniture painting course last month to turn old pieces of unwanted furniture into a statement for the home.


I want to share with you my work, here are my first two chairs I've upholstered I got these as a pair from a flea market in Leigh -On-Sea, it’s not there anymore which is a shame as it sold really cute chairs, I upholstered them in Cath Kidston fabric as the chairs are really petite and would look beautiful in a bedroom.
